Founding infrastructure Engineer - Large Scale Systems
Finternet Labs is building the next generation of financial infrastructure.
Location: Remote (Bangalore)
Employment Type: Full-time
Who we are
Finternet Labs is building the next generation of financial infrastructure.
If you look at global finance today, it resembles the internet before TCP/IP: fragmented systems, expensive integrations, slow settlement, and limited interoperability. Every institution operates in its own silo, which makes innovation hard and access uneven.
We’re here to change that.
Just as the internet transformed how information moves, Finternet is about enabling true interoperability across financial systems, at global scale, while respecting regulation, national sovereignty and compliance requirements.
The vision is bold, but clear:
· No single entity controls the infrastructure
· Every financial institution operates on shared, interoperable rails
· End users access financial services through namespaces, much like web pages
· The experience feels consistent, no matter where you are in the world
At Finternet, we are reimagining how digital systems interoperate, bridging the reliability of Web2 scale with the trust guarantees of Web3. Our leadership has built UPI, Aadhaar, and population-scale financial systems, and we’re now creating the next generation of open protocols that can operate across banks, blockchains, and sovereign networks.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on Founding infrastructure Engineer – Large Scale Systems who thrives at the intersection of systems engineering, applied cryptography, and open-source protocol design. You will architect and build the core primitives that make secure interoperability possible across centralized and decentralized systems.
What You’ll Do
· Architect and implement distributed systems that merge Web2 performance with Web3 composability.
· Design modular, open-source protocol components, custody, settlement, zk-proof modules, token integrations, and interoperability layers.
· Write and review high-performance code in Rust, Go, or TypeScript, contributing directly to Finternet’s open developer ecosystem.
· Apply cryptographic primitives (hashing, signatures, key management) to design secure and fault-tolerant systems.
· Collaborate with product, protocol, and research teams to translate conceptual designs into robust production systems.
· Drive performance optimization, reliability, and system fault-tolerance at scale.
· Participate in open-source community development, including design discussions, PR reviews, and developer outreach.
Who You Are
· You’ve spent years building or operating distributed systems in production.
· Strong grasp of Web2 architectures, microservices, cloud infra (AWS/GCP/Azure), CI/CD, and Kubernetes.
· Familiarity with Web3 paradigms, blockchains, consensus algorithms, token
· standards, or protocol design.
· Proficient in at least one systems programming language (Rust, Go, or C++) and comfortable reading/writing across others (TypeScript preferred).
· Strong understanding of cryptographic primitives (hash functions, digital signatures, public-key cryptography).
· Proven experience designing and scaling fault-tolerant, high-throughput systems in Production.
Nice to have
· You’ve either worked with blockchains directly or understand the trade-offs they introduce.
· You’ve worked on open-source distributed systems
· Experience with zk-proofs, secure multi-party computation, or published in cryptography/distributed systems.
Why Join Finternet
· Work with the creators of India’s most trusted digital infrastructure, the people behind UPI and Aadhaar.
· Shape the future of open, interoperable, and secure finance, across banks, blockchains, and nations.
· Collaborate with top researchers and engineers from blockchain, cryptography, and Web2-scale systems.
· Contribute to open-source systems with real-world, national-scale impact.
· Enjoy flexibility, autonomy, and a culture that values depth, curiosity, and craftsmanship.
